SOMETHING NEW

Click here to view Rob's new version of our PA Duties. He is asking that all PAs view the document and offer suggestions to make it better.

Starters' Duties

You may not have time to pass on all this information but please be aware of it:

  • To help the Marshal know where the problems are, use an electric GPS cart from the fleet if Outside Services gives you the okay. If there is a large tournament taking place extra carts are not always available.
  • Greet the players with a smiling face, asking if this is their first time playing on our wonderful courses. If they have previously played on the Mountain Course but not for a few years, you should explain about the changes involving hole 5 and the long drive through homes from the green at hole 9 to hole 10 tee box.
  • They should be showing you their paid receipt as instructed by the Golf Shop. This policy is under review and may not be necessary starting in 2018.
  • Explain the cart rules for the day.
  • Explain the GPS.
  • Sand and seed on the cart for tee box and fairway divots. And a reminder to repair ball marks on the greens.
  • Explain about the environmental areas where we don't go in after our ball.
  • Ask if they are smokers, pointing out that we are a NON-SMOKING FACILITY.
  • Washrooms on the Mountain are just before the tunnel after 5 green, at the Comfort Station, and halfway up hole 13 on the gravel road off of the cart path. In the Valley just before 5, after 10 and after 15.
  • Let them know if the Mountain Comfort Station is open and if there is a beverage cart on the course today. Check with the Take Out window to see if the ability to order food from their golf cart when on hole 8 is available each day.
  • Let all groups know that the course is a 4.5 hour course and give them the Marshal's name, explaining that the Marshal will be checking on them periodically and if they fall too far behind he has the right to move them ahead one hole or whatever is necessary. And to help speed up play we have a lateral rule in effect: Drop at nearest point of relief, no closer to hole, count one stroke.
  • Be sure to start each group 10 minutes apart otherwise they will be upset when they have to wait on every hole for the group ahead.
  • Monitor the group that has just started to see how well they play and let the Marshal know if he needs to speak to them sooner, rather than later. And keep an eye on the GPS so that you can inform the Marshal of any other pace of play problems.
  • And if someone is late for their tee time say at 8.05 am but expects to tee off immediately, late or not, you can use this wise quote from the Starter at The National Golf Club of Canada. "The 8.05 bus left at 8.05, so we will try to fit you in as soon as possible."

Marshals' Duties

  • Clean out the Marshal cart and if needed, wash it at the facilities down by the gas pump, as visual presentation to our customers is very important.
  • Our most important task is managing pace of play and enforcing the facilities' rules of the day regarding golf carts, outside liquor, etc. Greet them with a smiling face.
  • Make a point of speaking to all groups as you meet them. And it is recommended that you travel against the flow, in other words, meet the golfers as they come toward you. Don't sneak up behind them.
  • Ensure the golf course is clean ... pickup garbage you find along your travels.
  • Always carry sand and seed so that you can fill in tee box and fairway divots on your travels.
  • Find time throughout the day to fill the large buckets of sand and seed at the top of the ramp and in the Starters Shacks.
  • When you stop to chat with golfers ensure their sand and seed bottles are refreshed. And keep the bottles filled at the sand and seed stations at holes 5 and 10 on both courses.
  • Even though a housekeeping employee keeps the oncourse washrooms clean and tidy check them periodically to make sure the soap dispensers, paper towels (in some) and toilet paper are available. If cleaning is required please let the golf shop know so that they can inform housekeeping.
  • Rake the bunkers if necessary to remove deer/cougar/bear tracks and fix problems left by previous golfers.
  • Keep notes of problems/discussions with golfers as you may have to refer back to them or pass them on to the next PA.
  • After 2 pm check the range deck periodically to make sure the ball caddies are full of practice balls and the area is clean.
  • Tennis courts info will be available soon.

If you are scheduled for a GUN shift it is critical that you DO NOT leave until all GUN related duties are taken care of and make sure all KP/LD markers are brought in off the course.

It is the golf shops duty just as much as it is yours to make sure that this is done. Our events depend on this attention to detail so that our customers, their guests and their employees, have the best possible time and want to come back each and every year!

WE ARE ALL ON DISPLAY WHEN GUESTS, GROUPS AND GOLFERS ARE AROUND. TREAT EACH AND EVERY GUEST AS IF THEY ARE YOUR OWN GUEST BECAUSE REALLY THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE.

Pass any suggestions or ideas that you have or you have received from customers to the Golf Shop. These ideas will be considered in hopes of improving our situation.

We all need to really focus on what we are doing and make sure we get the job done.

We know we can count on everyone one of us to give that extra bit.
